The Russian Ministry of Defense lies about the “active defense” of the occupiers in the Avdeevka area of the Donetsk region to hide the lack of progress of their troops. This is what analysts from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said in their report.
“Russian officials are deliberately misleading by calling these offensive actions part of ‘active defense,'” the report said.

Analysts believe the Russian command would have to pursue a specific operational objective if it openly said it was trying to capture Avdiivka. However, the Russian Ministry of Defense is not confident in the ability of its troops to transform achievements at the tactical level into significant operational successes.
