Funding for Ukraine should be packaged with aid to Israel and border security, which are important items for Republicans.
The White House has continued to insist in talks with Congress that aid to Ukraine should be included among other things in President Joe Biden’s request for additional funding. About this on briefing on Thursday, November 30, said White House National Security Council coordinator John Kirby.
“We have held many discussions and briefings with members and staff of Congress on the importance of additional funding and advancement of all four segments – Israel, Ukraine, Indo-Pacific and border security,” Kirby said.
He emphasized that the administration is pressing Congress to act more quickly.
“We want all four priorities to be passed by Congress and all four to be funded,” he stressed.
The reason the president is asking Congress for additional funding is because all four issues are urgent, Kirby said.
Kirby also named three main components of aid to Ukraine.
Recall that US President Joe Biden is trying to convince the US Congress to support aid to both Ukraine and Israel, and approve a new aid package of $106 billion, including more than $61 billion in funds to help Ukraine. However, nothing has been agreed upon in Congress. The head of the House Intelligence Committee, Republican Mike Turner, said that new American aid to Ukraine and Israel will be difficult to accept before the end of the year.
