Iranian Deputy Defense Minister Mahdi Farahi announced the “finalization” of an agreement with Russia on the supply of Su-35 fighter jets, as well as Mi-28 attack helicopters and Russian-made Yak-130 combat trainer aircraft.
As the Iranian official was quoted by the Tasnim agency, “modern military aircraft” made in Russia “will definitely come to Iran’s disposal,” and the relevant processes are ongoing, Farahi added, without specifying details.
Russia has not yet confirmed the agreement. Washington stated that the supply of Russian aircraft to Iran could change the balance of power in the region. Exactly how many aircraft the Russian Federation will provide is unknown.
At the beginning of September this year, Russian bastards delivered the first Yak-130 combat training aircraft to Iran. We are talking about several aircraft. The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) plans to use the Yak-130 to train pilots of “4+++ and 5th” generation fighters, in particular the Su-35.
As for helicopters, based on the words of the Deputy Minister of Defense of Iran, now we are talking about receiving a certain number of Russian Mi-28 attack helicopters.
In January 2023, unofficial reports emerged from Iranian military-affiliated media that Iran and Russia had agreed to license production of Russian Ka-52 and Mi-28 attack helicopters.
