Robert Fico reiterated his desire for the Russian and Ukrainian sides to “sit at the negotiating table.”
The war in Ukraine is a “frozen conflict” and it is said that it cannot be solved by sending weapons to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This is what Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said after a meeting with his Czech counterpart Petr Fiala in Prague on Friday, November 24, the Associated Press reports.
According to him, he would prefer that the Russian and Ukrainian sides “sit at the negotiation table,” but did not explain how to achieve this against the background of the Russian Federation’s initial refusals to stop the hostilities.
Fiala said that the Czech Republic is an unwavering supporter of Ukraine and provides it with heavy weapons and other weapons.
“There is no doubt that we (with Fico, – edit.) different views on some issues,” said the head of the Czech government.
Fico emphasized that he respects the Czech Republic’s position and added that Slovakia is ready to provide Ukraine with humanitarian or other assistance. However, according to him, there is no reason for him to visit Kyiv. However, he noted that he will speak on the phone with his Ukrainian counterpart Denis Shmygal about what Ukraine needs before the coming winter.
The media recalled that Fico also opposes EU sanctions against Russia and wants to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO.
We remind you that the Slovak parliament on Tuesday, November 21, voted to give a vote of confidence to the government of Prime Minister Robert Fico. MPs backed a program that promises to end state military aid to Ukraine, gradually reduce the budget deficit and introduce a new bank tax.
