The State Customs Service reported that as of November 23, Polish carriers are blocking the entry into Ukraine of more than 4.5 thousand trucks at four checkpoints and there is a threat that they will also block a fifth.
“Nizhankovichi – Malchowice” is a new unfinished checkpoint that began operating only in February 2023. It was launched to relieve congestion at other vehicle checkpoints, reduce queues at the border and speed up the movement of traffic in both directions.
On November 23, Polish strikers blocked another checkpoint on the border with Ukraine. Polish border guards informed their Ukrainian colleagues that at about 10:30 on the territory of Poland, on the road in front of the Medika checkpoint (Poland), adjacent to the Ukrainian checkpoint Shegini, the movement of trucks began to be blocked.
Earlier, the media reported that about 100 strikers threatened to start a blockade of this emergency. Currently, traffic there is difficult in both directions. About 1,400 trucks are waiting to enter Ukraine from Poland.
On Thursday it became known that the second Ukrainian truck driver died in line due to a strike by Polish carriers. This was announced by the head of the NGO “International Road Carriers of Ukraine” Vladimir Mikhalevich.
According to Mikhalevich, the driver stood in line for almost three days to cross the border. He died at night in a parking lot near Korchevaya.
