This was reported on the Facebook page of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Ukraine (IFRCHR).
The shelter, consisting of several well-equipped apartment buildings with more than 100 smart apartments, was opened thanks to the joint efforts of the Ukrainian Red Cross, local authorities, the British and Austrian National Red Cross Societies, the statement said.
New residents of the shelter also received kitchen and food packages and other humanitarian aid from MFTVCHChP.
Chernigov resident Lyudmila, who together with her 12-year-old daughter received temporary housing in this shelter, said that in March 2022, Russian shelling destroyed the house in which they lived.
Last March, when Chernigov was already heavily shelled, we hurried on foot outside the city to our friends, and this saved our lives,” Lyudmila noted.
Many of her neighbors who remained in the house died.
Red Christ emphasizes that the need even for temporary housing among people who lost it as a result of the conflict is now very great in Ukraine.
In the coming years, the creation of shelters and the restoration of destroyed housing will remain one of the most pressing issues in Ukraine, including for the Red Cross Movement, noted the MFTVCHChP.
