On Wednesday, November 22, the High Anti-Corruption Court sent the ex-official into custody. The servants of Themis also provided Shchigol with the opportunity to post bail in the amount of 50 million UAH. This was reported by Public.
During the court hearing, a representative of the prosecutor’s office said that $1.2 million was found on the suspect. and another 6.9 bitcoins on the crypto-hamanka, which equals the amount of 270 thousand dollars. Also found was $72,000 in cash. and 82 thousand euros.
As you know, recently law enforcement officers exposed a scheme for theft of public funds, in which the leadership of the State Special Communications Service was involved. The former head of the department, Yuriy Shchigol, and his deputy, Viktor Zhora, suspect illegal misappropriation of budget money amounting to more than UAH 62 million.
Investigators say that both officials developed a scheme to steal public funds together with the owner of a group of companies. To do this, they attracted two controlled companies, and kept the purchase secret to ensure their victory.
Let us remind you that on November 22, the Anti-Corruption Court sent MP from the Servant of the People faction Andrei Odarchenko into custody for two months, suspected of attempting to bribe the head of the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration, Mustafa Nayem. The parliamentarian can leave the pre-trial detention center if he pays bail in the amount of UAH 15 million.
