A Panamanian-flagged cargo ship sank in the port of Eregli, located on Turkey’s Black Sea coast. The storm split the ship in two, Anadolu reported on Sunday, November 19.
“A cargo ship flying the flag of Panama, anchored in the port of Eregli, was split in two due to a typhoon in the region. The part of the ship drifting towards the coast hit the concrete walls of the port and damaged the amphitheater on the shore. ,” the report said.
All 13 crew members were evacuated ashore. None of them were killed.
The weather worsened in large parts of Turkey this weekend. Natural danger code orange has been declared in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and more than 60 other cities. Forecasters warned of strong winds, rain, and flooding. Around 200 domestic and international flights were canceled at the airports.
Let’s recall that in April, an African ship bound for Ukraine sank near Turkey. There were 14 crew members on board. Five were saved.
