In early November, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told Hamas head Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran that the country would not directly intervene in the war between Israel and Palestinian militants. The Iranian leader also said that he was allegedly not informed about the planned Hamas attack on Israel, which occurred on October 7. This was reported by Reuters, citing three officials representing both sides.
It is noted that during that meeting, the Iranian leader put pressure on his interlocutor to drown out Palestinian voices that publicly call on Iran and the Lebanese group Hezbollah to openly join the battle against Israel with all their might.
Reuters also writes that Hezbollah was taken by surprise by Hamas’s crushing attack on Israel. These militants were not even near the Israeli border; they had to be urgently called.
Sources say Iranian officials plan to continue using their network of armed groups, including Hezbollah, to launch missile and drone attacks on Israeli and US targets in the Middle East.
Let us recall that in October, Israeli authorities stated that the Israel Defense Forces could deliver a powerful blow to Iran if the Lebanese group Hezbollah decides to open a second front against Israel in the north of the country. These terrorists are supported by the Iranian government.
