New sanctions against Russia could be adopted on Wednesday. They will contain both personal sanctions and sanctions against the entire economic sector of the aggressor country.
EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell said the EU Council is completing work on the 12th package of sanctions against Russia. He said this on Monday, November 13, after a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, Radio Liberty reports.
Borrell noted that a new sanctions package could be agreed upon and presented as early as this week. This includes both personal sanctions and economic and sectoral sanctions.
“This 12th package will include more lists; new (import and) export bans – among them, on diamonds – actions to strengthen the oil price limit to reduce the income that Russia receives from the sale of its oil – not to us, but to others ; with a bypass and, as I have already said, a ban on diamonds,” said the EU’s chief diplomat.
According to him, the final details of this package are currently being worked out.
“It will consist of a Council decision, which will approve related decisions, and Council regulations, which will contain instructions for member states on how to implement these decisions,” Borrell said.
He also said that this Rada regulation could be approved next Wednesday.
Earlier, Borrell summed up the meeting of the EU Council, noting that Ukraine will remain a top priority for the European Union.
