If there is a threat in the east, the task of the new unit is to create an effective barrier to stop the offensive actions of the enemy.
Poland has deployed a new tank battalion on the border with the Republic of Belarus, equipped with South Korean-made K2 tanks. This was reported by the press service of the Polish Ministry of Defense on Sunday, November 12.
The new tank battalion will begin work in Chartaev, a settlement near the border with Belarus in the Brest region.
“A new tank battalion is starting to work in Chartajew, which will be part of the 1st Infantry Division, whose task is to block the aggressor and ensure security if we look at the directions of the attack from the east,” said Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.
He noted that the infrastructure for the motorized brigade was created from scratch, as military units had never been stationed there before.
“A container town with the necessary social and living infrastructure has already been created, ensuring the functioning of 180 fighters. In the coming years, it is planned to expand the permanent infrastructure, which will make it possible to create other unit of the motorized brigade,” said the minister.
The formation of the 1st Infantry Division began in September 2022. It will have 12 military units, including 4 combined arms brigades, an artillery brigade, 4 military-type regiments and 3 special battalions. It is planned that the division will have more than 30 thousand soldiers and will have modern equipment.
The Minister of Defense added that the Polish army has been increasing its potential since 2015, including actively following a policy of modernization of its own army, manifested in the purchase of modern weapons, as well as in the creation and restoration of combat units.
“We are building and forming new military units. We are recruiting young volunteers to the army, those who want to connect their future with the Polish army. We are providing modern weapons to these units , “the minister emphasized.
Poland has entered into an agreement with Britain worth more than £4 billion for the supply of air defense equipment.
We remind you that recently Poland has been actively purchasing various military equipment to strengthen the country’s defense. Blaszczak said that the Polish army would be the strongest land army in Europe. In addition, the Polish army may be the largest in Europe.
