From November 15, the Kiev Pechersk Lavra will switch to the New Julian calendar, which is the main one for the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, said the acting abbot of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, Archimandrite Abraham.
“At many requests of the parishioners of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, with the blessing of the Holy Archimandrite of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, His Beatitude Metropolitan Epiphanius, from November 15 (the beginning of the Nativity Fast) the Lavra switched to using new Liana Local Church,” said Abraham.
Let’s remember that from September 1, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine switched to a new style of calendar, where the new Julian calendar is used to calculate immovable holidays.
With the transition to the new Julian calendar for fixed holidays, VCU will celebrate Christmas on December 25th, instead of January 7th. Intercession is October 1, Epiphany is January 6, and St. Nicholas Day is December 6. The celebration of the moving Easter and the holidays associated with it will remain unchanged.
At the same time, parishes and monasteries wishing to follow the old calendar will have this opportunity.
