With the announcement of the sequel to ‘Inside Out’, discover a little more about the emotional film
D23 Expo is considered the biggest event in the world for Disney fans. The 2022 edition took place between September 9th and 11th, with several panels to announce all the latest news from the Walt Disney Company — and the Pixar studio couldn’t be left out!
During the ceremony, Pete Docter, one of Pixar’s directors, announced that the studio is producing “Inside Out 2”. Along with him was Amy Poehlerthe official voice actress of Alegria.
The director Kelsey Mannthe screenwriter Meg LeFauve and the producer Mark Nielsen are working on the new adventure inside the head of Riley, who is now a teenager. The release of the sequel to “Inside Out” is scheduled for 2024. Last Thursday, the 9th, the production received its first teaser, where it presented one of the new emotions: Anxiety. Check out!

1. Format of emotions
Have you ever noticed that emotions have a shape? And not just any one, they have a purposeful format according to your emotion. For example: Alegria looks a lot like a star, which refers to something bright and lively. Sadness is shaped like a drop, which reminds us of crying, which can be related to something sad.
Meanwhile, Anger looks like a brick, indicating that the person can sometimes be tough to deal with. On the other hand, Fear is tall and thin like a nerve, and Disgust is shaped like a piece of broccoli, his main enemy throughout the film.
2. Error in the story?
Have you ever wondered why Alegria didn’t send the base memories back to the control room through the tubes, like the workers didn’t do with the memory of the TripleDent gum jingle?
Peter Docterwho directed the animation, talked about it in an interview with “Rope of Silicon”:
We discussed it along the way and it was one of those things where we kind of boxed ourselves into a corner a little bit. We added the recall thing later when they were doing the song that got stuck in her head. Our argument was that Alegria wouldn’t trust the memories to be okay on their own, she needed to be up there too.”
3. 6 emotions instead of 5
Originally, the film’s writers thought of having a total of 6 emotions. In addition to the current five, there would be Surprise. In the end, the character’s anxieties and purposes were linked to Fear.
4. Different duo
Still in the film’s pre-production, the duo that would face all the adventures we saw would be Joy and Fear, while Sadness would be in the control room along with Anger and Disgust. Doctor commented on this to “The Dissolve”:
But we stray off course from that in the long run. We realized this wasn’t really saying what we were trying to say, with the laws of childhood and the pain of growing up. This was a crucial moment to remake history, combining Joy with Sadness.”
5. Didn’t hold back the emotion
Richard KindBing Bong’s official voice actor, was actually crying when he recorded the phrase: “Take her to the moon for me”.
Available on Disney+, the synopsis for “Inside Out” is: “Riley is a fun-loving 11-year-old girl, who must face important changes in her life when her parents decide to leave her hometown, in the state of Minnesota, to live in San Francisco. Inside Riley’s brain, several different emotions coexist, such as Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness. Their leader is Alegria, who works hard to make Riley’s life always happy. However, a disturbance in the control room causes her and Tristeza to be expelled from the premises. Now, they need to travel through the various islands in Riley’s thoughts so they can return to the control room – and, while this doesn’t happen, the girl’s life changes radically.”
