The new aircraft was presented as China’s own development in the summer of 2023 at the air show in Le Bourget, France.
China finally excluded Russia from the CR929 airliner project, which competes with aircraft produced by Boeing and Airbus. This was reported by the South China Morning Post.
The Chinese developer of the aircraft, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), no longer lists Russia among the project participants and promotes the aircraft as an exclusive Chinese development.
COMAC Vice President Eti Xuefeng spoke at the China Air Transport Association (CATA) conference last week about “progress” in developing the jet and moving to the “detailed design” stage, without mentioning Russia.
Russia was also not mentioned as a partner in the official launch of the special laboratory for CR929 in September, the media note. COMAC claimed that China has achieved “technological self-sufficiency” and “independent innovation capabilities.” There is no mention of participation in the project of the Russian United Aircraft Corporation, which was originally supposed to create the airframe and wanted to participate in the development of the engines.
At the French Le Bourget air show in the summer of 2023, the new aircraft was presented as China’s own development, despite the fact that the CR airliner abbreviation should symbolize the countries participating in the project (C – China, China; R – Russia, Russia). The R has now been dropped from the aircraft name and COMAC is marketing it as the C929.
As we wrote earlier, the company of the Chinese space rocket developer i-Space conducted a successful vertical takeoff and landing flight test of the SQX-2Y commercial reusable rocket.
