These systems were the most relevant for Ukraine last year, but arrived only in 2023. Part of the less usefulness of these combat aircraft is due to the fact that the Russian Federation has improved its air defense. This is stated in the article by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny for The Economist.
According to him, the enemy has modernized the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system. And an experimental version of this system can already reach, for example, the borders of the city of Dnieper.
As you know, the Netherlands and Denmark are responsible in Europe for training Ukrainian pilots on the F-16. Norway and Belgium also pledged to supply these aircraft to Ukraine. And the remaining 11 countries, including the United States, said they would help train Ukrainian Armed Forces pilots to fly these aircraft.
Let us remind you that the Ukrainian Air Force stated that they expect the first F-16 fighters to appear in Ukraine in the spring of 2024. The military believes that 150 modern fighters could effectively protect Ukrainian airspace.
