The incident occurred today, October 31. The helicopter was spotted in the airspace over the waters off the Nemuro Peninsula in eastern Hokkaido around 12:44 p.m. local time. The Japanese army scrambled fighter planes in response to the invasion. This was reported by Kyodo News.
Japan has already expressed strong protest to the Russian Federation due to this incident.
It is noted that this is not the first time that Russian helicopters have illegally entered Japanese airspace. This, in particular, happened in March last year after Tokyo began to impose sanctions against Russia.
Let us remind you that after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Japan supports the Ukrainian people. Tokyo not only provided Kyiv with a variety of aid, but also received wounded Ukrainian defenders in Japanese hospitals. Japan is also introducing sanctions against the Russian Federation.
