The amphibious assault ship USS Bataan, carrying a Marine Expeditionary Unit, is about to move to the eastern Mediterranean.
Washington has sent its Marine Rapid Reaction Force to the eastern Mediterranean as the war in Gaza threatens to escalate into a regional conflict. CNN reported this on Sunday, October 30, citing its own sources.
The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan was operating in Middle Eastern waters when the ship began heading into the Suez Canal last week, two officials said.
Bataan is currently located in the Red Sea and will soon move to the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
In this way, the US Marine unit will be closer to Lebanon and Israel, as the US has warned its citizens to leave Lebanon. One of the usual missions of the Marine Expeditionary Unit is to assist civilians in evacuation.
Let us recall that the United States warned Lebanon against being drawn into the conflict, saying that otherwise the Lebanese people would suffer.
It was previously reported that the United States had sent 2,000 marines to the coast of Israel.
