The United States strongly condemned the anti-Semitic protests and called on Russian authorities to ensure the safety of Jews.
The United States made harsh statements about the chaos over the arrival of Israelis and Jews at the airport in Dagestan, which took place on Sunday night. Some American institutions find anti-Semitism unacceptable.
In particular, the spokesperson of the US National Security Council, Adrienne Watson, made a statement, reports Haaretz.
“The United States strongly condemns anti-Semitic protests,” he said, adding that the US “clearly stands with the entire Jewish community as we witness the global rise of anti-Semitism.”
The US special envoy to combat anti-Semitism, Holocaust researcher Deborah Lipstadt, also responded to the unrest in Makhachkala. He called Russian authorities provide security for members of the Jewish community.
“We condemn the violent protests in Russia, which have reportedly threatened Israelis and Jews. We call on the Russian authorities to guarantee their safety,” he wrote.
The official stressed that the United States stands with Israel and the entire Jewish community “as we see the rise of anti-Semitism around the world.”
Lipstadt emphasized that there is no justification for attacking Jews or inciting anti-Semitism anywhere.
We remind you that on Saturday night a crowd entered the Makhachkala airport and “searched for Jews” who were supposed to arrive on a flight from Israel. People broke down the gates of the airport area, and the men also stopped cars leaving the airport and checked passports. Later, it was reported that during the “search for the Jews” more than 20 people were injured, but no Jews were harmed.
