The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Monday, October 30, on the issue of Israel’s ground operation in the Gaza Strip, CNN reports.
According to the source, the request for an emergency meeting came from the United Arab Emirates.
CNN obtained the UAE’s request to inform the Council of the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, as well as a representative of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.
The Security Council’s agenda for Monday afternoon includes a meeting on the topic “The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question.”
The emergency meeting came after 120 countries voted on Friday for a UN resolution introduced by Jordan calling for a “sustainable humanitarian truce” in Gaza. The US was one of 14 countries that voted against the resolution, while 45 countries abstained.
Let’s remember that Israeli troops have advanced more than three kilometers in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
The US sees an “increased risk” of conflict spreading across the Middle East as Iran-backed groups continue to attack US troops stationed in the region.
