The propaganda of the aggressor country reported that on October 27, the so-called volunteer battalion “Bogdan Khmelnytsky” “recruited” about 70 Ukrainian prisoners of war from various Russian colonies. The enemy, after completing training, will deploy this unit to an unspecified section of the front line. This is stated in a new report from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Forcing prisoners of war to take part in hostilities is a violation of the Geneva Prisoners of War Convention, experts say. This document stipulates that “no prisoner of war may be sent or held in areas where he may come under fire in a combat zone.” Also, military prisoners are prohibited from being involved in work that is harmful to health or dangerous.
Let us recall that in September, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andrei Kostin stated that almost 90% of Ukrainian prisoners of war were tortured in Russian captivity.
