At 4 am on Sunday, October 29, clocks must be turned back one hour.
On the evening of Sunday, October 29, Ukraine will switch to “winter” time. The hands of the clock have to be moved back one hour.
According to the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of May 13, 1996, the transition to “winter” time occurs annually on the last Sunday of October at 4 am. This year, the date is on October 29.
Mobile phones will automatically switch to “winter time”, but mechanical watches have to be set independently.
Summer and winter time calculations were first introduced in Great Britain in 1908 to save and more rationally distribute electricity throughout the day. Ukrainians began switching clocks between autumn and spring in 1981, when the USSR introduced transitions between “summer” and “winter” time.
In 2021, Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk registered a bill proposing to cancel the seasonal clock change, leaving “winter” in Ukraine. Parliament did not pass this law; document sent for revision.
