In Kazakhstan, the death toll as a result of a methane explosion at the Kostenko mine in Karaganda has exceeded 30 people. The country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations reported this on Saturday, October 28.
“At 16:00, the bodies of 32 dead were found in the Kostenko mine, the search for 14 miners continues,” said the short message.
The mine is currently monitoring the gas situation, sampling, and recovering the bodies discovered. At some point, the permissible concentrations of carbon monoxide are exceeded.
We remind you that today in the Karaganda region there was an explosion at the Kostenko mine. 21 deaths were immediately reported. At the time of the explosion, there were 252 miners underground, most of whom were brought to the surface.
The President of Kazakhstan, Kasim-Jomart Tokayev, expressed condolences for the deaths of miners in the Karaganda region and ordered to stop investment cooperation with ArcelorMittal Temirtau.
