The Associated Press writes about this, citing an American official familiar with the preparations for the meeting. Beijing and Washington have achieved “agreement in principle” to hold a meeting of the countries’ leaders on the sidelines of the summit. The exact date of the meeting and details have not been agreed upon.
The likelihood of such a meeting was previously published by The Washington Post. China has not yet officially confirmed that Xi Jinping will personally attend the APEC summit in San Francisco. The event will take place from November 11 to 17.
Let us recall that on October 27, Biden received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China and the head of the office of the Commission of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party for Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi. Before that, the top Chinese diplomat also met with Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
