The Netherlands became the first non-G7 country with which Ukraine began bilateral negotiations on security guarantees.
The head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak has started consultations with the Netherlands about the conclusion of a bilateral agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine. The OP press service reported this on Saturday, October 28.
It is indicated that the negotiations are taking place in Malta during a meeting of national security and foreign policy advisors. The negotiating group, headed by Ermak, also included Deputy Head of OP Igor Zhovkva, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolai Tochitsky and advisers to the head of OP Alexander Bevz and Daria Zarovna.
During the consultation, the parties discussed cooperation in the military field, issues of restoring the economy of Ukraine, as well as joint efforts to bring the Russian Federation to justice, as well as the pressure of sanctions and the use of confiscated assets of the Russian aggressor.
“The parties agreed on a plan of further actions for the near future to prepare for the conclusion of a bilateral agreement on security guarantees,” the statement said.
In addition, Ermak discussed with the Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Netherlands on Foreign and Defense Policy Geoffrey van Leeuwen, the issue of creating defense production in Ukraine was raised.
“Special attention during the meeting was paid to additional support from the Netherlands on the path of Ukraine’s integration with the EU and NATO. The parties also noted the importance of continuing sanctions pressure on Russia and jointly countering disinformation and Russian propaganda,” added the OP.
It is indicated that the Netherlands became the sixth country after the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Japan, France and the first country outside the G7 with which Ukraine started bilateral negotiations.
Let’s recall that in July, at the NATO summit in Vilnius, the G7 countries adopted a declaration providing long-term support for Ukraine in the field of security and economy. Any country that, at the bilateral level, officially agrees to provide certain guarantees to Ukraine can join this G7 declaration.
