It consisted of three people who were preparing a series of powerful explosions at Ukrainian military control facilities.
The priority targets of the Russians are units of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, as well as their reserve command posts.
To commit sabotage, the defendants planned to use 10 drones, which they specially equipped with improvised explosive devices.
The SBU acted proactively and detained all members of the Russian group when they began the active phase of preparing sabotage.
The Russians formed the group back in 2018. This was done by a staff member of the 9th Directorate of the Operational Information Department of the 5th FSB Service. It consisted of three people (residents of Kyiv and Chernigov), who, after recruitment, were transferred to “standby” mode until the start of a full-scale Russian invasion.
Each of the participants in the Russian agent-combat group had its own specialization in conducting reconnaissance and subversive activities in favor of the aggressor country.
One of them produced improvised explosive devices, the other was responsible for converting “civilian” unmanned aerial vehicles into attack drones. Laboratories for the production of explosives and modernization of drones were set up in the homes of the defendants.
Another member of the enemy group directly controlled the drones. To obtain the appropriate skills, in March of this year in the Kyiv region, a woman took a training course for UAV operators.
In the spring of this year, the defendants tracked the locations of the Defense Forces units in the capital region.
Based on the collected evidence, the enemy henchmen were informed of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The perpetrators are in custody. They face up to 15 years in prison.
