The organization Republicans for Ukraine rated Johnson’s support for Kyiv with a maximum negative score of F. He voted against all Congressional initiatives to support Ukraine and reduce it.
Previously, the pro-Ukrainian contender for speakership in Congress, Republican Tom Emmer, withdrew his candidacy. This happened under pressure from the far-right, Trumpist wing of the party, which refused to support him, CNN and WP reported.
The Republicans for Ukraine organization rated Emmer’s support for Kyiv with the most positive score of A. He voted for all Congressional initiatives to support Ukraine and against its reduction
Johnson received 128 votes in the internal party selection. This will be the fourth candidate.
Johnson, 51, is a Louisiana conservative who is considered close to Trump. He himself has already stated that he enlisted the support of his colleagues during an internal party meeting.
The joint vote will take place on Wednesday, October 25th. Johnson needs at least 217 votes to win.
