In Madrid, five gang members were detained who tried to illegally sell Ukrainian artifacts. Among those detained was a representative of the UOC-MP.
According to the investigation, the defendants illegally exported artifacts from Ukraine to the European Union during 2014-2020. Criminals then try to “legalize” the stolen cultural property under the guise of its acquisition by foreign collectors and subsequent resale on the black market.
Law enforcement officers documented the criminal actions of the defendants and caught them in the act – while they were carrying the artifacts.
An investigation is currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Seized antiquities were taken and experts concluded that they belong to the cultural heritage of Ukraine.
We remind you that 14 artifacts stolen by the Russians from the temporarily occupied territories and tried to illegally enter the United States have been returned to Ukraine.
