Budapest is trying to make the most of the current situation with Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
Our state’s membership in the EU is beneficial for Hungary, but official Budapest prefers to use the situation to put pressure on the European Union and advance its political demands. On Monday, October 23, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba spoke about this in a telethon.
According to him, Hungary’s public position and statements, especially regarding Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, can be classified as “the category of artificially created nerves.”
“Hungary is pursuing a very specific goal in this regard. It is connected to the well-known demands of the Hungarian side in relation to the Hungarian minority – people belonging to the Hungarian minority in Ukraine,” said Kuleba.
The minister believes that Ukraine’s membership in the European Union meets the strategic interests of Budapest, but “tactically they are trying to make the most of the current state of the negotiation process.”
We remind you that on October 17, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading the bill on people exposed to politics as a whole. This law can be counted as the fulfillment of IMF requirements. This is the last step to start negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the EU.
