The possibility of a protracted war between Russia and Ukraine is growing, Arup Banerjee, the World Bank’s regional director for Eastern Europe, said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

“Unfortunately, the likelihood that the war could continue beyond 2022 is currently growing,” he said.
The representative of the World Bank confirmed the forecast about the collapse of the Ukrainian economy by 44% this year.
“However, due to the long war, with active fighting still going on in some regions of Ukraine, we cannot ensure our initial hopes for recovery in the medium term. Because GDP is affected by active fighting that continues in relatively large areas of the country, and the rest of Ukraine is suffering from shelling, which causes corresponding losses in infrastructure, property and, therefore, livelihoods and jobs, “Banerjee explained.
Earlier, the Office of the President said that Ukraine could end the war against Russia by the end of 2022, provided that Western partners impose an embargo on oil and supply tanks, aircraft and artillery.
