The US House of Representatives was unable to agree on a speaker in the first round of voting. The Republican candidate currently representing the majority in the House of Representatives, Jim Jordan, did not have enough votes from his fellow party members.

200 congressmen voted for him for the 217 required.
A total of 20 Republicans voted against Jordan. Interestingly, the retired speaker of the lower house of Congress voted for Jordan.
This was the first round of voting by the House of Representatives. In addition to Jordan, Democrat Jeffries was nominated; he received 212 votes from his fellow party members.
Jordan is the leader of the right wing of the Republicans, a supporter of the policies of former US President Donald Trump.
The House of Representatives will make a new attempt to elect a speaker on Wednesday at 11 am (18:00 Kyiv time) – the candidate from the Republican majority, Jim Jordan, CNN reports.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg writes that the White House’s total request for a package for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and US border security will amount to $100 billion.
