In the Baltic Sea, damage was discovered to a telecommunications cable laid between Sweden and Estonia.
An underwater telecommunications cable running between Estonia and Sweden has been found damaged under the Baltic Sea. Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonson announced this on October 17, reports SVT Nyheter.
According to him, it was not a complete break in the cable, but slight damage. It is not yet possible to assess what caused the damage.
The minister explained that the damage probably occurred at the same time as the discovery of damage to the gas pipeline in the Gulf of Finland. Relevant Swedish services work closely with their Finnish and Estonian counterparts.
We remind you that the Balticconnector gas pipeline connecting Finland and Estonia to the Baltic Sea was damaged on the night of October 8. Finland, which is conducting its own investigation into the incident, admitted that “several states” were behind the accident. The country’s political and military leadership admitted Russia’s involvement in this incident.
According to Estonian media, a Chinese ship may have been involved in the damage to the Balticconnector gas pipeline.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg promised a decisive response from the Alliance if the gas pipeline sabotage is confirmed.
