The ruling Georgian Dream party said Zurabishvili himself should resign after the Constitutional Court’s decision, allowing the impeachment process to begin.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said she does not intend to resign after the Constitutional Court’s decision. He said this in a televised statement on Monday, October 16, in response to the court’s decision allowing the impeachment process to begin, Ekho Kavkaza reports.
“I will not go anywhere. I will not leave. I will stay where I am, where I have been all my life and why I came (from France – ed.), I stayed here and I am fighting for the European future of our country and democracy,” – said the president.
Before this, the leader of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Irakli Kokhabidze, said that Zurabishvili himself should resign after the decision of the Constitutional Court.
“Today, the future and democracy of Europe was killed with one shot. A country where there is no balance between the branches of power cannot be considered democratic,” replied the leader of Georgia.
In addition, he announced his intention to attend parliament if the ruling party votes for his “anti-European impeachment.”
As reported, the Constitutional Court of Georgia adopted a conclusion on the proposed impeachment of the country’s President Salome Zurabishvili for violating the Constitution.
Let’s recall that in September, members of the ruling Georgian Dream party accused Salome Zurabishvili of violating the Constitution because she traveled to European countries without the government’s permission.
