Israel has notified the UN of the need to evacuate 1.1 million Palestinians south of the Gaza Strip within 24 hours.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the crisis in the Gaza Strip had reached a “dangerous new low”. He told reporters about this on Friday, October 13, before the start of a closed meeting of the UN Security Council.
“The horrific Hamas terrorist attack in Israel on Saturday, which killed more than 1,200 people and injured thousands more, was followed by heavy bombing in the Gaza Strip, which has already killed 1,800 people and injured thousands more. We need immediate humanitarian access to Gaza territory so we can bring fuel, food and water to all who need it,” he said.
According to him, moving 1.1 million people from a densely populated area where fighting is going on to an area where there is no food or water, when the entire territory is under siege, is very dangerous, and in some cases are simply impossible.
“Hospitals in southern Gaza are full and cannot accommodate thousands of new patients from the north. The health system is on the verge of collapse. Funeral homes are overcrowded, eleven health workers were killed while in duty, and there have been 34 attacks on health facilities in recent days.” – added the Secretary General.
As reported by the Al Jazeera television channel, citing the Palestinian Ministry of Health, as a result of the attacks on the Gaza Strip, more than 1.9 thousand people died, and another 7,696 were injured.
After the IDF offensive, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said “this is just the beginning.”
