The head of the Pentagon made his visit to the country on Friday, October 13. Austin became the second top American official to visit Israel after the attack by Palestinian militants. On Thursday, October 12, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Israel. This was reported by The Associated Press.
Austin is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and the Israeli military cabinet. Also, the head of the US Department of Defense will see how the IDF uses American weapons, which were provided as assistance, against Hamas.
Before his visit to Israel, Austin visited Belgium, where on October 11 he took part in a meeting on the defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format in Brussels. Then, for the first time, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was present at NATO headquarters.
Recall that on October 10, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant said that the IDF was launching a “full offensive” on the Gaza Strip, as clashes with the Islamist militant organization Hamas in the south of the country continued for the fourth day.
