The armed concern Rheinmetal again received a large order from the German government for Ukraine. This time – for the supply of 150 thousand artillery ammunition.

This is the third order for the supply of artillery ammunition under a framework contract with the Bundeswehr.
We are talking about 155 mm ammunition from the Spanish subsidiary of Rheinmetall Expal Munitions, as well as DM 121 explosive ammunition. Both are intended for Ukraine.
Several tens of thousands of units of ammunition are planned to be delivered in 2023, the rest in 2024.
The world’s largest ammunition manufacturer, the German concern Rheinmetall, announced that the shells will be produced at the new Rheinmetall plant in Spain.
In mid-August, it was reported that the EU transferred 223.8 thousand artillery shells to Ukraine. This is the first part of a batch of 1 million shells, which European countries promised to transfer to the Ukrainian army within a year, that is, until the spring of 2024.
EU foreign ministers approved an overall plan to supply Ukraine with ammunition in March, but approval of the procurement scheme stalled while governments squabbled over contract terms.
During the current counter-offensive, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are actively using ammunition, and after the US decision to supply Ukraine with cluster shells, in some cases they have an advantage over Russian artillery.
The Russians threatened to destroy the German Rheinmetall plant in the summer.
If such a plant appears in Ukraine, the Russians will consider it “a legitimate target for the Russian armed forces,” said Maria Zakharova, an alcoholic and part-time spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry.
In turn, the plant management responded to this with a statement that “the concern is going to protect the plant with air defense systems manufactured by Rheinmetal.”
