The head of the Bulgarian State Security Agency clarified that the goods were intended for special forces fighting in Ukraine.
Bulgarian law enforcement officials have liquidated an organized criminal group that exported dual-use goods to Russia. This was reported by the Bulgarian publication News.bg.
It was reported that 12 people were arrested, five of them foreigners: three from the Russian Federation, one each from Albania and Belarus. Some of them were detained at Sofia airport – probably while trying to export military equipment.
The investigation determined that the group was exporting dual-use goods to Russia approximately since the beginning of 2021. One of the organizers registered a trading company in Plovdiv, which bought such goods for four million leva.
According to Bulgaria’s Deputy Prosecutor General Maria Pavlova, the goods were stored in a residential building and then packaged for export from Bulgaria via Sofia Airport in the Russian Federation.
The head of the Bulgarian State Security Agency, Plamen Tonchev, clarified that the goods were intended for special forces fighting in Ukraine. Russians periodically come to Bulgaria, paying for the goods and part of the transportation costs.
The above products include radios, binoculars, ballistic counters and optical sights intended for the Russian Guard, Russian Marines and private military formations such as PMCs Wagner.
It was noted that Bulgaria, as a member of the European Union, prohibited the legal export of dual-use goods to the Russian Federation, that is, they could be used in the war against Ukraine.
It was previously reported that Bulgaria will ban entry for cars with Russian license plates.
