The Security Service and the State Bureau of Investigation detained in the Kyiv region the general director of a foundry in the temporarily occupied Makeyevka of the Donetsk region, who was involved in financing the terrorist organization “DPR”. The SBU press service reported this on Monday, October 9.
It was noted that on the eve of a large-scale war, the attacker transferred tens of millions of hryvnias equivalent to the “budget” of the militants.
According to the investigation, after Makeyevka was captured in 2014, the businessman continued to do business in the occupied part of the region.
For this purpose, the plant sells equipment in Ukraine through front companies registered in our state. According to the documents, the goods came from Taganrog, but in fact they were imported from Makeevka through the Rostov region of the Russian Federation.
So, before the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, businessmen evaded the restrictions imposed on trading in captured businesses in eastern Ukraine.
To implement the deal, its participants created a network of controlled commercial structures in the regions of Vinnitsa, Zhitomir, Kyiv, Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye, as well as in Russia.
Businessmen transferred most of the “income” they received to the “DPR budget” as payment of “taxes and fees.” “Transactions” were carried out through sanctioned banks in Russia and the temporarily occupied Donbass.
Subsequently, the militant leaders used this money to finance the country’s occupation groups fighting aggressively on the eastern front.
It was established that the organizer of the “scheme” himself left for the Kyiv region before February 24, 2022, where he tried to “get down” and thus avoid justice.
However, law enforcement officials exposed his criminal activities and detained him. In addition to him, his accomplices in Vinnitsa, Zhitomir, Kyiv, Dnieper and Zaporozhye were exposed.
In dozens of searches of the defendants’ offices and residences, company seals, draft records and documentation used in the transaction, as well as computers and mobile phones with evidence of illegal activity were found.
The organizer of an illegal business was reported on suspicion of financing terrorism. A preventive measure was chosen for him – detention without the right to bail.
The investigation continues to bring all participants in the criminal procedure to justice. Perpetrators face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of assets.
