In the village of Verkhivka in the Vinnytsia region, a fire broke out in a two-story residential building. Two children died in the fire. The State Service of Ukraine for Emergency Situations reported this on Saturday, October 7, on Telegram.
As rescuers noted, there were six children in the apartment at the time of the fire. Three were rescued from the building, the eldest daughter saving herself.
According to the State Emergency Service, the fire occurred in an apartment on the second floor. While putting out the fire, rescuers found the bodies of two brothers born in 2020 and 2023 with no signs of life.
“A twelve-year-old girl ran alone out of a smoke-filled house onto the road. A neighbor rescued three other small children using a ladder before the rescue unit arrived. He saw smoke coming from the apartment window and heard children screaming,” the report said.
It is not known if the parents were home when the fire occurred.
The cause of the tragedy will be determined by the investigation.
