The North Atlantic Council authorized the dispatch of additional forces to resolve the situation in Kosovo.
NATO reported that a decision was made to send additional units to Kosovo to reinforce the KFOR contingent against the backdrop of a sharp deterioration in the security situation in the north of the region.
It noted that the North Atlantic Council had “authorized the dispatch of additional forces to resolve the situation” in Kosovo.
At the same time, the numerical composition and from which country the additional forces will be recruited are not indicated.
According to Reuters, the British Ministry of Defense transferred the command of a battalion of its troops to the Alliance.
NATO said it will continue to ensure that the KFOR commander has the resources and capabilities to enable international forces to carry out their mandate.
KFOR is an international force led by NATO responsible for ensuring stability in Kosovo, created in accordance with a resolution of the UN Security Council in June 1999. Currently, the number of peacekeepers is 4,300.
Let’s remember that at the beginning of June a Turkish battalion of about 500 people arrived in Kosovo as reinforcements for the NATO contingent.
It was earlier reported that 30 KFOR peacekeepers were injured as a result of the clashes in northern Kosovo.
