German residents support Ukraine for altruistic reasons; most of them understand that Russia is the aggressor.
Ukraine’s victory over Russia and its membership in the European Union will be beneficial for Germany. This was said by the head of the German-Ukrainian parliamentary group, Bundestag representative Robin Wagener on Friday, September 29, Ukrinform reports.
He emphasized that aid to Ukraine meets Germany’s strategic interests, but expressed regret that not all Germans understand this.
“We support Ukraine because most people understand who is the aggressor in this war and who is attacked, who are the victims of terrible war crimes. For altruistic reasons, Germany stands firmly on the side of Ukraine. But there is still not enough understanding that Ukraine’s success is in our own security interest,” the politician said.
He noted that Ukraine’s membership in the EU will also have a positive impact on German business, especially in the field of clean energy. However, he noted that this process should not be too hasty, because “too fast Ukraine’s entry into the Commonwealth could harm everyone.”
“However, there is no alternative to a strong and independent Ukraine, so fatigue from the war unleashed by Russia cannot be allowed to emerge,” he added.
German society, despite economic difficulties, did not tire of helping Ukraine after Russia’s full-scale invasion. This is what German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said.
