The comprehensive support from Kyiv, the increase in arms production in the West, as well as the successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the fronts may change the Kremlin’s offensive strategy.
Russia’s strategy is to continue waging war in Ukraine, relying on its allies to wear it down, but there are reasons to think Moscow will stop its aggression. Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics said this in an interview with the Finnish publication Helsingin Sanomat.
He emphasized that the events in Ukraine cannot happen “like in a Hollywood movie – with a two-hour presentation of events and a denouement that unfolds in 20 minutes.”
According to the Latvian leader, there are three factors that will force Russia to reconsider its strategy.
The first of them is the realization that the West is ready to unquestioningly support Ukraine, because Russian President Vladimir Putin understands that he will not be able to resist the combined economic potential of the United States, Canada and EU.
“Secondly, we must show that we are determined to increase the capacity of the defense industry and produce the shells, ammunition, missiles, drones and tanks that Ukraine needs, while replenishing our own reserves. Thirdly, it is, of course, the Ukraine’s progress on the battlefield, which will show Russia that all its desires for the recapture of the liberated territories are illusory,” Rinkevichs emphasized.
Let’s recall that in August, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania joined the declaration of the G7 countries in support of security guarantees for Ukraine.
