Warsaw said that after the emotions subsided, it was possible to establish a constructive dialogue with Kiev on the supply of Ukrainian grain to Poland.
Poland’s Agriculture Minister Robert Telus said negotiations on the export of Ukrainian grains were going in a “good direction” after “some emotions” had calmed down. Telus said this after a virtual meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Nikolai Solsky on Wednesday, September 27, CNN reports.
I am glad we had this meeting. I’m glad that we’re talking about the future, that we’re creating mechanisms for the future and we’re calming down some emotions that, as you know, didn’t help us, and that’s probably a good direction,” Telus said at the press conference.
According to the Polish official, his Ukrainian colleague Solski promised to discuss with the Ukrainian Minister of Economy the possibility of withdrawing the complaint against Poland at the World Trade Organization.
“That would be good because if we want to talk, we want to find solutions, and I think we all want to find a long-term solution, not just here and now, but a solution for the longer term, so this thorn. is unnecessary, so this one splinter, we are talking about a complaint, has to be removed,” he said.
The Telus office also reported that they are “in the final stages” of negotiations with Lithuania on arranging the transit of Ukrainian grain through the country’s ports. Solsky proposed a similar event for Germany as a transit point.
“Also, the Minister of Ukraine proposed to transfer the same control to the German side, we are talking about German ports, so that they are not on the Polish-Ukrainian border, but in German ports. I promised that We will also consider this option,” Telus said.
Also on Wednesday, a statement from Ukraine’s Ministry of Agriculture said “the parties discussed Ukraine’s action plan for the export of agricultural products to Poland.”
It was previously known that Warsaw wanted Germany and Lithuania to control, respectively, the transportation of grain to German and Lithuanian ports.
We remind you that Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia asked Ukraine to withdraw its complaint to the World Trade Organization due to the ban on the import of agricultural products.
