Andrei Kostin noted the importance of prosecuting Russian war criminals not only from Ukraine, but also at the International Criminal Court.
Ukraine has transferred several cases of high-profile crimes of the Russian Federation to the Ministry of Justice and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation and is awaiting the results of cooperation. Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andrey Kostin said this in an interview with the Ukrainian Voice of America service.
“We already have significant support. Not only from the Department of Justice team on the issue of prosecution for war crimes, but also from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. We have divided some cases into two teams – cases that received international publicity as an example of Russian atrocities, and we look forward to the results of this cooperation,” said the Prosecutor General.
Kostin noted the importance of prosecuting Russian war criminals not only from Ukraine, but also at the International Criminal Court.
“It is important that other countries, especially the United States, which have specific laws, specific capabilities and great determination to help us and help Ukrainians, also achieve results in this work,” said Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
Kostin clarified that law enforcement officials are investigating as war crimes not only Russian military atrocities and forced deportations, but also crimes against the environment, cyber attacks, attack on cultural heritage and illegal trade in cultural heritage.
“Thus, we are approaching new dimensions of crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine and against Ukrainians. And in all these areas, the Ministry of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and all government agencies are helping us ,” concluded the Prosecutor General.
We remind you that on September 14, the ICC field office in Kyiv began to function. It was found to be the largest representative office of the International Criminal Court outside The Hague.
