Austrian oil and gas company OMV has signed a five-year gas supply agreement with Norwegian energy group Equinor. Reuters reported this on September 27.
Starting October 1, with the start of the winter gas season in Europe, Equinor will supply 1.1 billion cubic meters, increasing volumes under existing contracts.
The gas will be supplied to the German virtual trading center THE (Trading Hub Europe) for OMV’s European portfolio and at a price “in market terms”. With these new volumes, Austria will continue its gas diversification strategy.
The Austrian company already buys gas from Norway due to long-term supplies of liquefied natural gas through the Dutch Gate terminal and the EU Joint Gas Purchasing Platform. OMV also has long-term gas supply contracts with Russian Gazprom for the period up to 2040.
