In Lublin, Zelensky gave state awards to a Polish journalist and volunteer doctor, and also thanked the Polish people.
Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky visited Poland on an unannounced visit, where he met with volunteers helping Ukraine and presented them with awards. The press service of the President’s Office reported this on Saturday, September 23.
“I am proud that Ukraine has a very strong neighborhood. I want to thank you. I want to thank all the Poles, all the people who from the first days opened their families, their homes, opened themselves and help. I believe that any challenges on our common path, it is nothing compared to the fact that there is such strength between our people,” said the head of state.
Zelensky presented state awards to Polish citizens – journalist Bianka Zalewska and volunteer doctor Damian Dudi.
TVN Discovery Poland journalist Bianka Zalewska has been working in the ATO zone in Donbass since 2014, where she was seriously injured. As a volunteer, he collected and transferred humanitarian aid to Ukraine. At the outbreak of a full-scale war against Ukraine, the Russian Federation provided significant assistance to the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as a volunteer he assisted in transporting seriously ill children to hospitals in Poland.
Rescue medic Damian Duda assembled a team of doctors who bought the necessary medical equipment at their own expense and went to Ukraine to provide emergency medical care and evacuate soldiers wounded on the front line to a stabilization point . He also created a fund that financed the purchase of medicines for groups of volunteer doctors in Ukraine.
By presidential orders, Zalevskaya was awarded the Order of Princess Olga, II degree, and Duda was awarded the Order of Merit, III degree.
Let us recall that the former Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki warned the President of Ukraine not to “insult” the Poles. This is how the head of the Polish government responded to Zelensky’s statement at the UN General Assembly, where he criticized Poland’s actions.
