The United States of America decided to give the ATACMS missile to Ukraine even before Vladimir Zelensky’s visit.
US President Joe Biden’s administration decided to provide long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine even before President Vladimir Zelensky’s visit to the US, but decided not to announce it publicly. This was reported by the Financial Times, citing sources.
One of the interlocutors of the publication noted that this was done in order not to give hints to the Russians and not to encourage them to move their supply lines from the front line.
The United States will send missiles in the near future, initially in small quantities, the publication’s sources noted.
They also reiterated that Washington will send a version of the ATACMS missile armed with cluster munitions instead of a warhead.
Sending missiles with cluster munitions would help ease some concerns among US officials that sending missiles with a single warhead would deplete American stockpiles, the sources said.
We remind you that US President Joe Biden told the leader of Ukraine in a meeting at the White House that Washington will transfer a small number of ATACMS missiles.
