The biggest breakthrough in this counteroffensive was yet to come. According to the commander of the Tavria group of troops, this will happen after Tokmak.
The commander of the operational-strategic group of Tavria troops, Brigadier General Alexander Tarnavsky, said that the winter will not slow down the offensive actions of the Ukrainian army, and the greatest victory is yet to come. He said this in an interview with CNN on September 22.
“Weather could be a serious obstacle during the attack, but given the way we’re advancing, mostly without vehicles, I don’t think that [она] will greatly affect the counteroffensive,” said Tarnavsky.
The general also noted that Ukraine’s major victory – the biggest of this counteroffensive – is still ahead.
“I think it will happen after Tokmak,” said Tarnavsky. – “While they are [россияне] will rely on the depth of their defensive line there.”
The general was positive about the final result and noted that for the counteroffensive to be successful, Ukrainian troops need to at least reach the city of Tokmak.
“Tokmak is a minimum goal. The overall goal is to reach our state borders,” said Tarnavsky.
According to him, it is not the so-called “Surovikin Line” that brings the most problems to the Ukrainian defenders, but “the intersection of roads, forest belts and mines between forest belts.”
“There is a combination of small harmful groups defending the enemy, which are now very accurate and capable of explosion,” said the general.
He added that the actions of the Ukrainian fighters force them to retreat slowly when they encounter the attack groups of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
As we wrote earlier, the Ukrainian military repelled Russian attacks in several directions at once within 24 hours. The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains difficult.
