Poland has increased military spending following Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine, and the government has pledged to spend 4% of GDP on defense by 2023.
Poland’s decision to provide military aid to Ukraine is its sovereign decision, but it does not indicate a decrease in the level of support for Kyiv. This was announced by Brigadier General Patrick Ryder, spokesman for the US Department of Defense, on Thursday, September 21, CNN reports.
Thus, the Pentagon commented on the statement of the Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki that Poland has stopped supplying weapons to Ukraine.
“We have always said that it is the sovereign decision of any country to decide what level of support it will provide,” Ryder said.
He emphasized that Poland has done a lot for Ukraine.
“Poland is one of the leading countries when it comes to providing security assistance to Ukraine, and not only in the field of security, but also providing significant humanitarian aid and support to more than a million displaced Ukrainians who have fled the Poland as a result of the Russian invasion,” – pointed out Ryder.
Let’s recall that the day before, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that Warsaw is now focused on organizing its own army and therefore is not transferring military aid to Kyiv.
