Owners of vehicles with Russian license plates must enter the vehicle in the Estonian register within six months or take it to the Russian Federation.
The Estonian government has decided to give owners of cars with Russian license plates six months to enter them into the Estonian vehicle registry or take the cars out of the country. This was announced by Estonian Interior Minister Lauri Läänemets, Postimees reports.
“Vehicles with Russian license plates are prohibited from entering Estonia from September 13. However, in relation to vehicles already in Estonia with Russian license plates, we will not make any changes to the law, but will apply the legal norms which is currently being implemented,” he said.
According to the minister, residents of Estonia are required to register a vehicle brought into the country for their own use in the local registry within five days, and a foreigner must register his vehicle if he will use it in Estonia within a year.
When exporting a car, you must pay taxes and duties. For cars worth 20,000 euros, the duty is around 2,000 euros, and the turnover tax is 4,400 euros.
We remind you that Estonia, following Lithuania and Latvia, has banned the entry of Russian vehicles. The user or owner of such a car must return to Russia with the car or cross the border without it.
