The corresponding request from the Ukrainian side was rejected by the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Republican Kevin McCarthy.
The President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, was not allowed to speak at a joint meeting of the upper and lower houses of the US Congress. This was reported by The Guardian on Thursday, September 21.
It is indicated that the corresponding request from the Ukrainian side was rejected this morning by the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Republican Kevin McCarthy.
“McCarthy said there wasn’t enough time for a joint address because of the busy legislative week,” the newspaper reported.
The spokesperson also added that a meeting with members of Congress will be arranged for Zelensky. Similar meetings were held for the British and Italian prime ministers during recent visits.
“In addition, McCarthy said, Zelensky has already spoken to Congress,” the report said.
We remind you that this week Zelensky is visiting the United States. He spent the past few days in New York, where he addressed the UN General Assembly and a UN Security Council meeting, and also met with several world leaders.
